The surface of the magnet that goes inside the aquarium is rough enough to actually take the algae off the glass. Unlike another brand of algae magnet that I’ve used, it floats, so you don’t have to tie a string to it. Great product!! Just beware of scratches!! Really great product, removes algae from the glass very efficiently, without having to wet your arms and the floor around the tank! the magnet is extremely strong, even if the inside part is away from the glass, once you approach the outside part to the glass, the inside part comes right away!Just beware if you have very fine substrate, because if you get very close to the bottom, some of the substrate can get caught in the scrub and before you know it, you got a big scratch in your glass!
